Hou - A mechanic at Eversun.

A good friend of Hart.

A kind-hearted and prodigy Eversun mechanic.

Intro[]

Hou is a tech now making his permanent residence in Eversun. His outgoing, helpful attitude makes him a popular with the locals. He invented a highly efficient battery to store and discharge Flux, so the richest man in Eversun hired him to make a special one for his son Hart to help him control his powers.

The lonely Hart often used maintenance as an excuse to invite Hou over to the house. Hou discovered Hart possessed exceptional abilities, especially the Gyee powers he couldn't control. Meanwhile, Hou revealed his own Gyee identity to Hart as the two became very close friends.

Hou loves baseball and has a baseball bat made from special metal that expands in size when channeled with Flux. Anyone wishing to hurt Hart must get past the bat first.

Consolation Letter[]

Do you like baseball too?

It would be great if so! We can team up in a baseball match someday!

If you are interested but don't know how to play, I can teach you! Don't be worry of asking for me help! I'm always ready to help you.

If you don't like it, it's fine. Everyone has his own hobby. You must have your favorite sports!

I look forward to your reply. Maybe we can find more common interests.

Bath Drama[]

  • Bathing after a baseball game dilates all your pores!
  • I think Hart will love this place...
  • Damn. I forgot to bring my towel...

Fave Hottie Slogan[]

Enjoy the contest. The desire for victory will only reduce your enjoyment. Leave me your vote, then when the contest is over, we'll go play ball together. How about it?

Intimacy Breakthrough[]

This section contains spoilers for Intimacy Breakthrough scenes.

-Intimacy Level 4
Hou: You really are too kind, sending me all these gifts...
Hou: Thank you!

-Intimacy Level 5
Hou: Got the stuff you sent!
Hou: Thank you so much.
Hou: Come to my ballgame tomorrow!

-Intimacy Level 6
Hou: My bat was screwy last outing so I didn't have a good game...
Hou: Hope I wasn't too embarrassing.
Hou: But I'm ready this time!
Hou: Watch me hit a Home Run!

-Intimacy Level 7
Hou: I just went to the old lady's home to fix her light.
Hou: She kicked me out as soon as I got in.
Player: What? Were you not invited?
Hou: No.
Hou: She came over and asked me to fix her light today.
Player: Then how come she kicked you out?
Hou: She's old and forgets easily.
Hou: She doesn't even recognize people she knows, sometimes.
Hou: She said I couldn't possibly be maintenance with how I dressed.
Hou: So she kicked me out without listening to me.
Hou: I gotta go back again.
Hou: When the neighbors turn off their lights at night,
Hou: Her house will be all dark.
Hou: She has bad legs. So she trips easily.
Player: If you visit her in maintenance get-up...
Player: I guess, she will let you in.
Player: Oh, I can find you a jumpsuit.
Scene transition
Hou: Thanks.
Hou: The old lady let me in this time.
Hou: The light's fixed so I feel better now.
Hou: The jumpsuit you loaned me fit like a glove.
Hou: I'll give it back after I wash it.
Player: Keep it, it's yours as a gift.
Player: You're so helpful and want to fix stuff for the villagers all the time.
Player: It's better for you to have a jumpsuit.
Player: Keep it.
Hou: All right.
Hou: Please look me up if you got anything that needs fixing.
Player: Sounds great.
Player: Oh, you're gonna depress Billy!
Hou: Um...
Player: Nah, just kidding.
Hou: Oh, really.

-Intimacy Level 8
Hou: Wanna see me play still?
Hou: Got some designing to do these days.
Hou: No time to play ball.
Hou: You're welcome to visit the workshop.
Hou: But it's probably going to be noisy.
Hou: As long as you don't mind.

-Intimacy Level 9
Hou: You're always giving me stuff.
Hou: So I made something... for you...
Hou: Lie down on the bed.
Hou: ... Yes.
Hou: Put this on your back.
Hou: Push this button...
Hou: And it massages the muscle!
Hou: How does it feel, good?
Hou: Use it to relax after a full day's work.

-Intimacy Level 10
Hou: Machines don't talk, but they will do everything as programmed.
Hou: Baseball is the same. The launching angle, power, wind direction, all impact the ball's trajectory.
Hou: These are set in stone and immutable.
Hou: If you study it and practice hard, you'll get a result for sure.
Hou: There's too much uncertainty between humans.
Hou: So I like being with machines, no social interaction there.
Hou: I feel comfortable only with simple, honest people.

-Intimacy Level 11
Hou: Can I trouble you?
Player: Usually, people look to you to solve problems.
Player: It's rare you come looking for me.
Player: Tell me what I can help you with.
Hou: I heard about Master Turing when I was an apprentice.
Hou: His story really inspired me.
Hou: I realized in order to reach the pinnacle...
Hou: You have to broaden your vision.
Hou: So I started paying attention.
Hou: Those who made it to the top of a field often came from another trade.
Hou: Just like Master Turing, who started in magic and ended up in engineering.
Hou: He managed to combine the arcane with machines.
Hou: And went on to build many great inventions.
Hou: I'd like you to find a published treatise by Master Turning for me.
Hou: I'm very interested in reading his work.
Player: Sure, no problem.
Scene transition
Player: This publication has printed many of his articles.
Player: Turing isn't the only one.
Player: You should check out the articles by other master mechanics.
Player: Maybe they'll inspire you.
Player: I did browse through a few...
Player: I understood each word, but not when they're put together.
Hou: Yeah, I ran into that problem too.
Hou: I didn't have any formal training.
Hou: So I'm way behind the educated masters like Turing.
Player: You're too modest, Hou.
Player: Your machines are very practical.
Player: And who knows how some so-called masters put together their treatises...
Player: They can't compare to you with eagerness to learn, innovate, and benefit people's lives.
Player: A lot of those 'masters' fall short of you!
Player: You're second to none when it comes to engineering!
Hou: Do you always heap praises like that?
Player: Why are you looking at me like you don't believe it?
Player: Do you think I just immortalized you like Hart did?
Hou: Yeah...
Hou: You said it, I didn't.
Player: I should get some new lines.
Player: So I can really unload them on you when you show modesty again!
Hou: ...

-Intimacy Level 12
Hou: I'm too awkward sometimes?
Hou: Sorry, I get shy rather easily.
Hou: I wasn't confident as a child and had to hide I'm Gyee.
Hou: So I'm very afraid to express myself to other people.
Hou: I did improve after I got better building machines.
Hou: But force of habit still makes me freeze every now and then.
Hou: Finding what you're good at and devoting all effort to it can really change a person!
Hou: Especially when you improve lives with the fruits of your labor.
Hou: That has made me much more outgoing!

-Intimacy Level 13
Hou: You're happy when you're with me?
Hou: Awesome!
Hou: Feel free to talk to me if you have problems!
Hou: The world is full of problems, but you have to face them.
Hou: It's impossible not to be moody at all.
Hou: Don't get emotional and deal with it rationally, or it may get worse.
Hou: I probably sound too cold here...
Hou: Maybe it's because I spent too much time with machines.
Hou: But I'm passionate inside!
Hou: My pleasure, anytime!

Dates[]

This section contains spoilers for Date scenes.

Prodigy

-Intro
Hou: Are you interested in sports?
Player: Yes.
Scene transition
Hou: Hey, come join our baseball team!
Player: Why do you like baseball so much?
Hou: Because it's a very charming sport.
Hou: Well, that probably sounded ridiculous.
Hou: Everyone could use words like 'charming' or 'great' to describe their favorite sport.
Player: Let me guess why you're such a great ballplayer...

-You're a natural. - 500 Intimacy
Hou: Great ball players are usually great not because of talent.
Hou: but because they enjoy it and immerse themselves completely.
Hou: For instance,
Hou: I can hit homeruns because I don't push myself to.
Hou: That didn't sound logical, but it's the truth.
Hou: So no need to worry even if you don't have the talent.
Hou: It's good to just relax and enjoy the sport.

-You're ultra-competitive. - 700 Intimacy
Hou: Competitiveness probably describes you.
Hou: But I'm the opposite.
Hou: I just want to do my job.
Hou: I don't like to carry too much baggage.
Hou: Hitting, baserunning, planning, improvising, plus occasional weather concerns...
Hou: They're all crucial in a ballgame
Hou: But teamwork always comes first.

-You value teamwork. - 900 Intimacy
Hou: Yes.
Hou: Compared to other ultra-competitive sports,
Hou: Baseball is about teamwork.
Hou: This is the only sport you can't win with just one dominant skill.
Hou: Plus, many a game was not won but lost to errors.
Hou: A pitcher can lose a game all by himself.
Hou: To win, you must rely on help from others.
Hou: So you have to trust your teammates.
Hou: United, trust each other, play as one.
Hou: Now that's baseball!

Baseball?

-Intro
Hou: It's a perfect day for a ballgame! Wanna join me?
Player: Yes.
Scene transition
Hou: We're early. Let's wait for them.
Hou: I've been too busy working recently to come out.
Hou: I'm at my best when I'm sweating on the field under the sun!

-Teach me. - 900 Intimacy
Hou: What, you want me to teach you?
Player: I saw you play and you could say I'm a fan.
Player: If you teach me...
Hou: "Teach" is not the right word...
Hou: But I can definitely coach you!
Hou: Okay, let me show the basics before they get here.
Hou: Grab yourself a bat.

-Praise him. - 700 Intimacy
Hou: Heh heh. I'm flattered!
Hou: I've been practicing since childhood.
Hou: You can do it, too, if you practice.
Hou: Here they come! Let's play ball!

-Ask about the game. - 500 Intimacy
Hou: Work's been busy enough for me to miss a few games.
Hou: So I feel a bit left behind.
Hou: But it's always great to hear they won!
Hou: Even though I wasn't a part of it...
Hou: Here they come! Let's play ball!

First Class

-Intro
Hou: Wanna come with me to teach the kids in Eversun Kindergarten?
Player: Yes.
Scene transition
Hou: This is my first time teaching kids so young.
Hou: I've never been this nervous teaching Hart or in the orphanage.
Hou: What subject should I start with?

-Math - 700 Intimacy
Hou: Math is very useful.
Hou: It shouldn't be hard to learn, even for kids.
Hou: But I worry that they might find it boring.
Player: Well, you can teach them through fun examples.
Player: And play games with numbers.
Hou: Games? That's a good idea.
Hou: I'll need your help to get all the kids into it.
Hou: Let's go in and teach the class together.

-Art - 900 Intimacy
Hou: Great suggestion.
Hou: Kids should love it.
Hou: They can express their creativity freely,
Hou: and apply the artistic skills they learn immediately.
Hou: Oh, I can probably drop some knowledge in the process too.
Hou: So I'll need you to be in today's art class... as the Forml.
Hou: I'll also be pointing at you up and down in the meantime
Hou: to teach the kids basic anatomy.
Hou: And in return...
Hou: You'll get many sketches of your body!
Hou: Come, let's go inside.
Hou: I expect us to have a great first class together!

-Machinery - 500 Intimacy
Hou: The concepts and principles for machines are hard to grasp...
Hou: Wouldn't it be difficult for kids to learn?
Player: You can just show the finished product and share the experience.
Player: No need to jump right into the nuts and bolts.
Hou: You're right.
Hou: Make it a show-and-tell the first time out.
Hou: Thanks for the advice.
Hou: Let's go in and start the class.

The Never-coming Letter

While Hart is away, Eversun seems deserted. And you wonder how Hou has been doing.

-Part 1
Scene - The present, Eversun, in front of Hou's workshop
Hou: The day Hart left...
Scene - The past, Eversun harbor
Hart's Mother: (teary eyes) I'm regretting it, my child...
Hart: Sigh. You found me annoying around household, now you don't want me to leave for Never Isle.
Hart's Father: Don't listen to your mother. You'll be worse off staying here in Eversun.
Hannah: Where you're going isn't like home, Hart, so you make friends and listen to teachers in the Academy...
Hart: I know, I know! You sound like a broken record, stinky sis!
Hart's Father: Get settled in quickly and take care of yourself!
Hart: I will!
Hart: See ya, mom, dad, stinky big sis!
Hart walks over to Hou
Hart: Hou...
Hart: You'd better be here if my battery is down again.
Hou: It won't go down so easily.
Hart: Oh, it will, when I miss you.
Hou: ...
Hart: Goodbye.
Hart starts walking towards the ship but then quickly runs back to Hou
Hart: Hou...
Hou: Hmm?
Hart: I gave you a peck on the cheek when you dozed off last time.
Hart: And I saw your eyelashes moved. Did you wake up?
Hou: Yeah.
Hart: Okay.
Hart leaves for Never Isle
Scene - The present, Eversun, in front of Hou's workshop
Player: ...
Choice - So, Hart left just like that?
Hou: (Nods)
Choice - So, was his battery down?
Hou: (shake head)
Choice - Wait, was that a farewell or a love confession? - 8 Intimacy
Hou: (scratch head)
Conversation continues after choices
Hou: I lost contact with him since that day.
Hou: I have no idea how his life is on Never Isle.
Player: He never got in touch with you in all this time?
Player: Did something happen to him, I wonder?
Hou: !!!
Player: Did he ever contact other people?
Hou: The mailman said he sent letters back, but none for me.
Player: Who did he write to?
Hou: Family, mostly, but even a fisherman he knew and a classmate he once fought got one.
Choice - That's highly unusual to ignore just you!
Player: Why don't we ask around? Somebody who got his letter ought to know something.
Choice - Maybe he was busy making new friends and forgot about you!
Hou: So I'm the only one he forgot?
Player: Couldn't you focus on the 'making new friends' part?
Hou: Well, I'm happy for him for making new friends so fast.
Player: Heh, I'm just teasing.
Player: Stop waiting if you cared about him so much!
Player: Why don't we ask around? Somebody who got his letter ought to know something.
Conversation continues after choices
Hou: Okay.
Player: Let's go...
-Choice A - Ask the fisherman.
Hou: That fellow lives in the village. I'll take you to him.
Scene - Fisherman's stall
Old Fisherman: Just in time, Hou. I got two extra ducks I can give you!
Hou: Appreciate it but I'm okay, thanks.
Hou: Allow me to introduce you to the man we seek.
Old Fisherman: And who is this fine young fellow?
Player: How do you do, I'm Hou's friend, here to ask you about Hart.
Old Fisherman: Ah, got it. Wait here, I'll be right back with the letter.
Old Fisherman: Found it!
Player: How did you know Hart?
Old Fisherman: Oh, I knew Hou first.
Old Fisherman: There's no one who didn't like such a helpful kid.
Old Fisherman: Hou would come around and help out more often if Hart didn't try to hog him.
Old Fisherman: There's no way I could've known the young noble otherwise.
Old Fisherman: I actually didn't really get to know Hart until last year.
Old Fisherman: He booked my fishing pond for last year's Solar Festival.
Old Fisherman: He wanted to feed the villagers fish and show off his Flux power in front of them.
Old Fisherman: He didn't realize water conducts electricity and almost fried himself with his power in the pond!
Old Fisherman: But the fish he did roast tasted pretty good.
All Choices - "Wow, that's dangerous!" OR "Was Hart all right?"
No additional dialog
Conversation continues after choices
Old Fisherman: I have bad eyesight and it was dark, so I couldn't really see.
Old Fisherman: But it got scary for a bit.
Old Fisherman: Though with Hou around, Hart will always be fine!
Old Fisherman: Hart actually got quite excited after shocking himself, bouncing around and hugging Hou all night.
Player: ...
Player: What was that all about, Hou...?
Hou: (whispers) Long story, I'll fill you in later. Let's get on with the letter.
Player: Ok.
Player: Do you know why Hart wrote you?
Old Fisherman: He wrote me to ask a favor.
Old Fisherman: He wanted me to watch Hou so other people won't take him.
Player: Eh?
Old Fisherman: You'll see when you read the letter.
Old Fisherman: I squinted at it and all I saw was obsession between the lines.
Old Fisherman: Here it is, read it for yourself. I got to go feed the ducks.
The Old Fisherman walks off
[Envelope]
To: 10 Fisherman Village, Eversun
Mr. Old Fisherman
From: Hart
[Open envelope]
[Letter]
(squiggly writing of typos)
Other than my family and Hou, you treated me the best, mister!
I know Hou comes over to help a lot, so would you keep an eye on him for me?
Please write and let me know if he makes new friends.
*sighs*... This is torturous...
It's not I don't miss Hou.
I just want him to feel what it was like for me to wait to hear from him all day at home.
I spent every waking moment waiting for him to show up.
So I had to found out...
And was told he came to your house and put in a new light.
Then he gave a mechanical toy to that boy I hated.
I also knew he came to fix my battery when I was asleep and left right after.
I couldn't stand the feeling that he was around, but I still couldn't have him!
So I figured...
I'd write to everyone in Eversun but Hou!
Then he would know how desperate I felt!
But what if he doesn't feel the same...?
This is torturous...
[End]
Player: It's a struggle to read even when you have good eyesight, ain't it?
Player: His writing is so illegible!
All Choices - "His writing is just as illegible as mine!" OR "He should learn penmanship from me!"
No additional dialog
Conversation continues after choices
Hou: ...
Player: Hart sounded like he's anxious and suffering. Were you...
All Choices - "Not into a relationship?" OR "Giving him the cold shoulder?"
No additional dialog
Conversation continues after choices
Hou: I have nothing to say.
Hou: Hart tried to get close to me no matter the cost.
Hou: But I'm concerned about my background and past.
Hou: I know the repercussions if I accepted his advance, so I deliberately tried to avoid him.
Hou: But eventually I couldn't fight it.
All Choices - "So you caved?" OR "So you felt bad for him?" - 5 Intimacy OR "So you stopped worrying about consequences?" - 8 Intimacy
No additional dialog
Conversation continues after choices
Hou: Yeah, even regretted that I didn't reciprocate sooner.
Hou: Instead of him feeling hurt now for me spurning him.
Player: Were you concerned you two would be too high profile as a couple?
Hou: I didn't want to create trouble for him.
Hou: I moved to Eversun for a quiet life.
Hou: I already decided I didn't want to tell anyone here I'm Gyee.
Choice - That would save you a lot of problems. - 8 Intimacy
Player: I understand your decision.
Choice - You're disciplined and low-key enough for anyone to find out.
Player: It doesn't matter to me, as long as I get along with others.
Conversation continues after choices
Player: But if you didn't want to tell anyone...
Player: How did Hart find out?
Hou: I made an exception.
Hou: He could always make me break my own rules.
Player: I'm more curious about how he discovered you're Gyee!
Hou: It has to do with the Solar Festival last year when he almost fried himself.
Player: Huh?
Player: Did something happen when you saved him?
Hou: Yeah.
Hou: It was an emergency, so I was too hasty to manage hiding the yellow glow in my eyes.
Hou: But he wasn't startled, even kept smiling at me.
Player: So you mean...
Choice - He saw it.
Hou: Yeah.
Hou: He probably had some idea even before he saw it.
Hou: He just wanted to catch me off-guard and prove it.
Choice - He confirmed his suspicions? - 11 Intimacy
Hou: Yeah.
Hou: He risked his life just to confirm I'm also Gyee.
Conversation continues after choices
Player: ...
Player: Was Hart happy as a clam when he found out and could barely stand not telling the world?
Hou: He was indeed very excited, but also promised to keep it a secret.
Hou: Because if his parents knew the person curing him of 'being Gyee' is Gyee himself...
Hou: I could never visit him again, maybe even kicked out of Eversun altogether.
Hou: But it's moot, since I probably won't get another chance to see him.
Hou: So I must keep up the charade for Hart.
All Choices - "For you two, my lips are sealed!" - 8 Intimacy OR "For you and being honest with me, my lips are sealed!" - 11 Intimacy

Hou: Thanks.
Player: Let's go.
Choice - Ask Hart's sister.
Go to Choice B
Choice - Ask his old classmate.
Go to Choice C
Choice - Read the letter Hannah forwarded to you. (Available if you visited Hart's sister)
Go to Part 2

-Choice B - Ask Hart's sister.
Hou: Yeah, let's go to his house and ask Hannah.
Scene - Outside Hart's house
Servant: Oh Hou, how I missed you!
Servant: I hardly get the chance to see you without Hart around!
Servant: It feels weird now no one sends me to go get you anymore!
Hou: Yeah, it's been a while since you last dragged me over to fix his battery.
Servant: You remind me of how you used to duck Hart when he asked for you...
Servant: It was so tough for me being caught in the middle!
Hou: Sorry about that.
Servant: No worries, it's all worth it to see you two eventually became friends.
Servant: So what brings you here today?
Hou: Is Hannah in? I want to know if she heard from Hart lately.
Servant: Sure, let me get her for you.
Player: The family servant sure was glad to see you!
Player: You and Hart...
All Choices - "When did you become friends?" OR "How did you become friends?"

Hou: Probably the day he cornered me and grilled me.
Hou: That's another long story too...
Scene - In the past, Outside of Hart's house
Hart chases down Hou and catches up to him
Hart: Hey, stop!
Hou: Did I wake you, Mr. Hart?
Hart: No!
Hou: What is it, then?
Hart: The battery you made, it leaks electricity!
Hou: What? I fixed that a few days ago already.
Hou: It's in a plastic insulated casing now so that shouldn't happen.
Hart: So um...
Hart: The battery is not waterproof!
Hou: That was fixed, too.
Hou: You can even swim with it on now.
Hart: So um...
Hart: I left it in the icebox yesterday, it froze and is useless!
Hou: ...
Hou: Which is why I made modifications.
Hou: It's now antimoisture and antifreezing.
Hart: !!!
Hou: Any other questions?
Hart: Well, that means you make inferior batteries so you must keep coming back to fix them!
Hou: Sorry for the trouble.
Hou: I'll be back when there's a problem...
Hart: I know you will, that's why I waited for you everyday! But why did you come only when I was asleep?
Hou: ...
Hart: Why are you glaring at me?
Hart: Please don't get mad at me.
Hou: Mr. Hart...
Hart: You can call me by my name.
Hou: ...
Hou: Hart.
Hou: Can you promise me one thing if I don't get mad at you?
Hart: Let's hear it.
Hou: Don't break the battery again.
Hou: I'll be sad if that happens.
Hart: Is it because you won't be able to fix it if I do?
Hou: No.
Hou: I can make it practically unbreakable.
Hou: But it will make the battery very heavy.
Hou: Carrying it won't help your posture.
Hart: Huh?
Hart: But...
Hart: I don't know what to do otherwise.
Hart: Because I've tried every way I could to break it.
Hou: Do you want to treat your own body like a joke?!
Hart: ...
Hart: The backlash of power is temporary and can be endured...
Hart: As is the pain of muscle cramp.
Hart: So...
Hart: Don't be mad at me.
Hart: This is the quickest way I know to see you.
Hou: You did it just to see me?
Hart: Yeah.
Hart: I don't have any friend, Master Hou.
Hou: Don't call me master.
Hart: You want to be friends with me, Brother Hou?
Hou: Don't call me brother, either.
Hart: Okay then, do you want to be my friend, Hou?
Hou: ...
Hou: All right.
Hart: !!!
Hart: But friends must keep in touch!
Hou: Yes. Now go back inside, it's getting chilly out here.
Hart: Cool! I'll see you tomorrow!
Hou: Huh?
Hou: Oh.
Hart: Awesome! I'll see you every day, too!
Hou: Huh?
Hou: Okay.
Scene - The present, Outside Hart's house
Hou: Although before that day, something already happened between us.
Hou: After that day, something more happened.
Hou: But I'd say that was when we transitioned from employer-employee to friends.
All Choices - "You left it to Hart to make the first move!" - 5 Intimacy OR "If you hadn't budged, he might've given up." - 8 Intimacy

Hou: ...
Player: It was chaotic getting to know you and Hart. We didn't even have the time to chat!
Player: I always wanted to be friends with you, but I didn't know a whole lot about you.
Player: We should take this time to talk while we wait for Hannah. I'm very curious about you!
Hou: You can ask me anything.
Player: (Wow, that's pretty straightforward!)
Player: (What should I ask?)
Choices start
-Choice B1.1 - Where did you move to Eversun from?
Hou: You want to know my first home?
Hou: It's some place in the countryside you probably never heard of.
Hou: I came to Eversun for work, but I decided to make it my permanent home now.
Hou: So it's my second home that I don't plan on ever leaving.
Player: Don't you want to go back and visit your family?
Hou: My parents passed away, and I have no relatives there.
Choice - Sorry to hear that. - 11 Intimacy
Player: Oops, just asked something I shouldn't.
Hou: It's okay, no worries.
Hou: I don't have any hang-up.
Player: (He sure knows how to make others feel comfortable in a conversation.)
Hou: They passed from illness. The village was hit with a very contagious disease and not many survived.
Hou: I lived maybe because Gyee might have certain immunities.
Choice - How did they pass?
Hou: They passed from a contagious disease that not many villagers survived.
Hou: I lived maybe because Gyee might have certain immunities.
Conversation continues after choices
Player: So you being Gyee in your village...
Hou: It's very remote and no White Capes ever went there, so villagers don't know about the prejudice for Gyee.
Hou: Also, my parents probably didn't even know what Gyee is, nor their son is Gyee.
Hou: Villagers are simple folks, and my parents are no exception.
Hou: I believe even if they found out...
Hou: How much others perceived Gyee as a danger to society, they would never abandon me.
Hou: When they were still around, I never went hungry even though we were poor.
Hou: It was when I left the village to make it on my own,
Hou: that I finally knew what hunger meant, and heard all the Gyee slurs.
Hou: So when I first got to Eversun, I was cautious and didn't want to let anyone know I'm Gyee.
Player: Here I thought, with a sunny personality like yours...
Choice - You probably had a pretty good life.
Hou: Not exactly.
Hou: There's always difficulty when you left home at a young age.
Choice - You probably had a pretty rough life.
Hou: Not really.
Hou: It's not rough when you met as many kind people as I have.
Conversation continues after choices
Hou: At the risk of sounding cliched and pretentious,
Hou: all the setbacks I experienced did build my character.
Hou: Looking back, I gained more than I lost.
Go back to Choices start

-Choice B1.2 - How do you make enough money to keep helping others?
Player: I've wondered about this for a long time now.
Player: As an outsider, how did you make enough for a home in Eversun so fast?
Player: Every time I saw you, you were working on machines, helping people, or hanging out with Hart.
Player: I heard you not only funded local schools, but many kids who couldn't afford to attend.
Player: Repairmen can't make that much, especially when you don't normally charge for your service.
Hou: So that's what you really wanted to know!
Hou: Well, I have Eversun to thank for that.
Hou: Eversun is most famous for exports and conveniently located for sea transports.
Hou: I love tinkering with and inventing little gadgets to make life better for everyone.
Hou: So I made mechanical guards, housekeepers and toys, then sell them abroad.
Hou: They became extremely popular, and a local plant sought to partner with me.
Hou: I'd do R&D, they'd handle customization, quality control and sales abroad.
Hou: That plant was efficient and eventually moved to a better location from here.
Hou: But we've kept the working relationship and I earn royalties from it.
Player: Wow, you're raking in the big bucks in your low-key style!
Player: Wealth does come to those with skills and compassion.
Hou: Nah, I'm not very rich, just able to live comfortably for the time being.
Hou: I still have to make money for the donations, not because I have too much money.
Hou: I'm ashamed to say I could only afford to sponsor a dozen kids.
Player: Why do you strain yourself?
Hou: Because I don't want them to have to quit school like I did.
Hou: Knowledge may not change the wealthy, but it can make a poor kid rich.
Hou: In my first few years working, I was envious of friends who could still study in school.
Hou: It's very difficult to learn once you're out of school.
Hou: Very few people can be like Hart who could have tutors come to them if they wanted.
Player: But you're Hart's favorite and taught him the most.
Hou: I did consider teaching other people, but you know how... obsessive he is.
Player: Oh, I do.
Player: Why don't you do that while he's gone? I won't tell him.
Hou: Thanks!

-Choice B1.3 - Well, maybe next time.
Player: There you are, Hannah!
Conversation continues after choices
Hannah walks out of the house
Hannah: Sorry to keep you waiting, Hou, I just finished giving Woofie a bath.
Hannah: Every one of Hart's letters ended in asking whether you've come.
Hou: He knew I'd come?
Hannah: No, I believe he hoped you would come.
Hannah: While he's still getting used to community living, I could tell he's doing well.
Hannah: Oh, here's a letter he wanted me to give to you.
Hannah: I'm curious what's in it, but he stressed in other letters that it's private between you two.
Hannah: So take this and read well, Hou.
Hannah: The mailing address is his current dormitory on Never Isle.
Hannah: Hart will be ecstatic if you write him back.
Hou: Okay.
All Choices - "Boy, is Hart playing coy or what?" OR "Hart really wanted to make sure only you could read it!"

Hannah: I got to go towel Woofie off. Hart will get mad at me if the puppy catches a cold!
Player: Let's go.

Go to Choice C
Choice - Read Hart's letter Hannah just gave you.
Go to Part 2

-Choice C - Ask the old classmate.
Hou: He must pass through the market square to get home from school. Let's wait there.
Scene - Eversun Market Square
Hou: That's Todd over there, he had a fight with Hart.
Hou: But the school is still in session.
Hou: Did he ditch class for the lantern festival?
Player: Let's find out.
Hou and Player walk up to Todd
Todd: See ya, teachers, I don't want to go to school today, for I'm smart and carefree...
Player: Hey buddy, are you Todd?
Todd: That's me. What do you want?
All Choices - "Hand over Hart's letter or I'll drag you back to school!" OR "I heard you got a letter from Hart. Do you have it?"

Todd: Here. Read it fast and give it back to me.
(Todd pulls a wad of paper out of pocket)
[No envelope]
[Unfold letter]
[A huge inkblot obscured most of the text]
[Math calculations scribbled across corners and in between words]
(the handwriting is wriggly and hard to decipher)
Player: !
Hou: The paper sure went through a lot...
All Choices - "What did you do to the letter?!" OR "I see you've been studying hard."

Player: (reading letter) There's a southern nanny yog on Never Isle...
Hou: ???
Player: Don't panic. I read it wrong, that's all.
Player: (re-reading) There's a sorceress named Yaen on Never Isle...
Player: *sighs*...
Player: That's the best I can do, can't make out anything after that.
Todd: Heh heh! I remember what he wrote.
Todd: He said he went to a place faraway.
Todd: His fellow students
Todd: are stronger and smarter than him.
Todd: Naughtier and better learners, too.
Todd: So he wrote to say he missed me very much.
Todd: Because he wouldn't come in last if I were also on the island.
Player: ...
Todd: He said he didn't know kids of his age were much more worldly than him until he left Eversun.
Todd: He also regretted pranking people, now that he's being pranked by someone named Yaen.
Todd: And that's about it.
Todd: So why did you want to know?
Choice - Thanks. Bye!
Todd: Hey, give me back the letter!
Player: You sure? It's crumbled beyond recognition.
Todd: Of course, this is the first letter I've ever gotten!
Todd: He wrote every word specifically for me!
Todd: So I carried it with me every day!
Hand the letter back.
Choice - So the troublemaker met his match, Yaen!
Hou: Who is Yaen?
Player: Hart would end up getting himself when he tried to prank others. But Yaen is something else...
Player: She's the master of mischief, bar none!
Hou: That sounds like Hart won't be bored on the isle with her around.
Player: Good of you to think of it that way.
Choice - Hart showing remorse? He's progressed!
Hou: About time he starts to mature.
Player: Why do you look unhappy, Hou.
Hou: Not unhappy, but a little concerned.
Hou: Living in a strange environment with strangers,
Hou: without anyone spoiling him or catering to his whims...
Hou: That's probably a lot of growing pains for him.
Player: Don't worry, the people on Never Isle are kind.
Player: He could grow only when he is out of his comfort zone.
Player: Actually...
Player: You probably feel that someone who is loved doesn't exactly need to grow up, right?
Hou: ...

Player: Let's go.
Choice - Ask Hart's sister.
Go to Choice B
Choice - Ask the old fisherman.
Go to Choice A
Choice - Read Hart's letter Hannah just gave you. (Available if you visited Hart's sister)

-Part 2
Player: Let's open the envelope Hannah gave you.
Choice - Should I leave you alone? - 11 Intimacy
Hou: That's not necessary.
Hou: He just doesn't want his family to know what he wrote.
Choice - Can I read it with you?
Hou: Sure.
Hou: He just doesn't want his family to know what he wrote.
Conversation continues after choices
(Hou opens the envelope)
[Envelope]
To: 1 Solar Road, Eversun
Recipient: Hannah
From: Hart
Note:
Do not open and read, sis!
But give it to Hou only when he misses me and asks about me!
If he doesn't show up for a long time, or if you can tell he doesn't miss me at all...
Then give this to him, anyway!
Hou: ...
[Open envelope]
[Letter]
(cute but serious handwriting)
Player: Wow, he really put a lot of effort into this one!
If I wasn't Gyee.
I wouldn't have to stay in the house, take medicines, or undergo weird treatments all the time!
I wouldn't sass my parents (well, maybe not)...
If I wasn't Gyee.
I wouldn't have anyone refusing to play with me (no wisecracks here)...
If I wasn't Gyee.
I wouldn't be hunted by White Capes, or hiding out on an island far from home, where everything is strange to me.
...
I always stick to saying 'Gyee are the coolest!', but I'm scared inside.
If I really wanted to, I could probably come up with 10,000 things I'd enjoy if i wasn't Gyee.
But...
If I wasn't Gyee...
I would've missed out on you.
So I'm lucky in that regard, Hou.
You feel the same too, right?
You must feel the same!
...
Also!
It's hard for grown-ups to express their love, but not for kids.
I love you, Hou.
That indescribable kind of love.
Do you get it?
Pretty sure you don't.
...
I'm not really expecting you to write back.
So write me whenever you remember me.
I got all the time in the world to wait.
[End]
Hou: ...
-Choice A - Are you blushing, Hou?
Hou: It's a little hot in here.
Choice - You shy because this is your first love letter?
Hou: What...? No, of course not...
Player: Heh, you're so nervous, you're stuttering.
Player: When I see Hart, I should tell him to be even more lovey-dovey next time.
Player: Then you won't just blush, but burn straight up!
Choice - Oh no, are you getting a fever?
Player: Should I stay and watch after you?
Player: Or should I say...
Player: Do you want me to bring Hart back to care for you?
Player: But does Hart know how to care for anyone?
Hou: No, I'm not sick, you don't have to watch after me... Nor him.
Player: You're not sick?
Player: Then I should tell Hart you're all right and only he is sick... lovesick.
Hou: No no, that's not it, either...
Conversation continues after choices
Player: Okay, I'll stop messing with you.
Player: I'll visit him on Never Isle for you when I get a chance.
Hou: I really appreciate it!
Hou: If you do see him, can you tell him something for me?
Player: Sure.
Hou: Tell him I got his letter.
Player: No problem.
Hou: I'll write him back.
Hou: So let him... look forward to that.
Player: Okay.
Player: Well then, I'll see you later.
Hou: Look forward to seeing you again!
Scene ends

-Choice B - Want me to visit Hart on Never Isle for you? - 11 Intimacy
Player: He really cares about you.
Player: Even a rowdy kid like him turned soft waiting for you to write back.
Player: He talks tough, but probably insecure inside.
Hou: I think Hart...
Hou: He's always more open and honest about himself than I am.
Hou: He often said things I would never expect.
Hou: When I was explaining how to maintain the battery to him,
Hou: he just blurted out,
Hou: 'When you talk, I feel like my heart is about to jump out right onto your hand!'
Hou: I just froze.
Hou: So he didn't get the response he hoped.
Hou: And changed topic after my silent pause.
Player: ...
Hou: I knew what he was thinking,
Hou: and what he was feeling.
Hou: He didn't see that same feeling in my eyes.
Hou: He was afraid it's unrequited love.
Hou: But it really isn't.
Hou: I should do little soul searching here.
Hou: It was rather insensitive how I treated him, wasn't it?
Hou: I forgot to tell him.
Hou: I'm just slow to react.
Hou: But I understand his feelings now.
Hou: If it weren't for all the letters today,
Hou: I'd probably still not realize I've been hurting him all along.
Player: ...
Player: I was planning on explaining it myself to Hart.
Player: But you just put it so nicely...
Player: I don't know if I can convey it for you.
Hou: It's okay.
Hou: I'm fine with him never knowing what I just said.
Hou: Just tell him I'll write him.
Hou: So he doesn't have to pretend like he doesn't care anymore.
Hou: And just write me directly.
Hou: I'll respond to all his letters.
Player: Awesome, I'll tell him that!
Hou: Thank you!
Player: Goodbye.
Hou: Goodbye!
Scene ends

-Choice C - Man, you're making me feel like a third wheel!
Hou: What the heck is a 'third wheel'?
Hou: Oh, I appreciate you
Hou: running around with me today because of Hart.
Player: (Hey, I'm only doing this to get close to you!)
Player: (Sigh. You're so dense...)
Player: You got the letter, so I'll be going now.
Player: I'll say hi to him for you next time I'm on Never Isle.
Player: So, I'm a pretty good friend, right?
Hou: Thank you for caring about him.
Player: (What?!)
Player: (You got it all wrong, I came to Eversun to see YOU while that kid ain't around!)
Player: Don't worry, it's Never Isle, he should be all right.
Hou: Yeah, I think I worry too much.
Hou: I want him to have a good life.
Hou: Also, thank you for being a friend.
Player: (It's about time!)
Player: (You're a pretty easy mark!)
Player: That's what friends are for, man!
Player: I'll come see you again when I have time.
Hou: I'd like that, especially with Hart not around.
Hou: You should know your way around Eversun and my house.
Hou: Look forward to seeing you again!
Player: You too!
Player: Bye.
